Jewelry Care Instructions

We use quality materials for our jewelry so that it can be worn every day. However, caring for the jewelry properly is essential to maintaining its original quality for a long time. Here are some tips on how to care for your jewelry based on the materials:

GOLD FILLED & GOLD PLATED

Gold-filled jewelry is composed of a solid layer of gold (requires at least 5% of its weight) bonded to a base of some metals, and therefore, gold filled jewelry is more tarnish/discolor resistant than gold plated jewelry. Gold plated jewelry has a layer of gold placed over some metals. With good and proper care, both gold filled and gold plated jewelry can be worn daily and remain in its high quality condition for a long time.

Although, gold filled jewelry is good with water, we recommend avoiding the following as much as possible to keep its original condition.

Things to avoid:

  • Pools & Hot Tubs

Chlorinated water is very bad for your jewelry – it can ruin your jewelry almost immediately.

  • Shower

For gold plated jewelry we recommend to not shower as it can cause the gold plating to wear off easily.

  • Sunscreen, Makeup, Perfume, Sprays, Oils, Cream and Lotions etc.

One tip when using those products is to put on/wear your jewelry after your skin gets dry and clean jewelry after usage.

  • Sweat

Avoid direct contact with sweat (including saltwater like the ocean). It is a good idea to take off your jewelry before any workout.

**One’s own body chemistry can also be harsh. I.e. some people are more acidic than others or naturally sweat more than others. **

How to store:

  • Wipe the jewelry with a soft dry cloth or microfiber cloth that was included in your package after each use and store it in your ísäli gift box.

Sometimes your environment can cause the jewelry to tarnish easier. For instance, living in humid areas, etc.  In those cases, try to take extra care of the jewelry.

Additional Note:

Skin turning green, although it is very rare, sometimes when you wear your jewelry in any of the condition above, it can cause your skin to turn green. That is due to the chemical reaction of certain substances on your skin with the material of the jewelry.

Some people naturally have high acidity levels that can also cause the reaction of turning your skin green to certain jewelry materials.
